The main function of the transmission on your car is to transfer power from the engine of the vehicle to its wheels so as to allow the vehicle to move. When your transmission acts up, your handling of the vehicle will be compromised. You may feel the car shake while on the road, you might have problems staying in gear/changing gears or your engine may rev a lot, yet the car does not accelerate as expected. Therefore, it is imperative to keep your car's transmission in good working order at all times.

Here are a couple of tips to help you take proper care of your transmission so it can work efficiently for longer:

Regularly check your transmission fluid level.

Your transmission fluid cools your transmission system by absorbing excess heat, and it also keeps moving components well lubricated. Over time, however, your transmission fluid level may drop, causing your transmission to overheat and leading to faster wear and tear of moving parts. To protect your transmission from these problems, always check to make sure that transmission fluid level does not fall below the level recommended by your vehicle manufacturer.

Consider using synthetic transmission fluid.

There are a number of benefits associated with using synthetic transmission fluid instead of standard transmission fluids. Unlike standard transmission fluids, synthetic transmission fluid offers superior resistance to oxidation and provides better thermal stability—hence it is better at absorbing heat generated within the transmission. In addition, it reduces the potential for rusting within the transmission components. Upgrading to synthetic transmission fluid may prove to be more beneficial to your transmission system over the long run.

Consider installing a transmission cooler.

If you want your transmission system to perform well for a longer period, you should also consider equipping it with a quality transmission cooler. A transmission cooler will help minimise excess heat, which can be detrimental to your transmission in the long run. As a result, you will be able to prolong your transmission's life and avoid costly transmission repairs and parts replacement.

Avoid driving styles that may be harmful to your transmission.

Fast starting and aggressive driving may cause heat build-up within your transmission, which may prove to be damaging to your transmission. Therefore, you had better avoid that and drive normally if you want your transmission to continue functioning properly longer.

Follow the above tips if you want to keep your transmission functioning well for as long as possible. Taking your vehicle to a car mechanic on a routine basis will also help prevent most of the problems that could arise with your transmission.

About Me
What to Do if Your Car Makes a Strange Noise

Hello! My name is Pete and this is my blog. I came up with the idea for this blog when I was driving home from work one day. I was making good progress through the city traffic when all of a sudden, I heard a very strange noise coming from the engine. I started to panic and pulled over to one side of the road. Thankfully, I was able to get someone to tow me to the next auto garage so I could have the car repaired. The mechanic carried out a full service of my car and repaired the problem.
